What most tennis fans didn't expect however, was the absence of Andrew Murray in this year's competition. The Brit may be number one but a wrist injury has got the better of him this time round. A doctor's orders are final and when there's a long term career to think of, sacrifices have to be made.

Murray had been drawn to play Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti in the first round but American Kevin Kim has now taken his place. Let's hope for a swift recovery (and some sun). In the meantime, Tim Henman has some high expectations ahead of him. Looks like Murray's Mound may not steal the Henman Hill title just yet.

Do you have a message for Murray? Maybe some words of support for Henman? Or do you just want to have your say about the matches so far? Post your Wimbledon rants in the comments section. There's also discussion happening on the official Andy Murray forum...

"Were politics involved in the handling of the pull out? That's the question being asked by some."

It's no secret that Wimbledon is the must-see tennis event of the year. People will do damn-near anything to secure a seat for their favourite player's big game. In most cases, this means lining up and waiting overnight. But why all the fuss? What's the big deal about smashing that little yellow ball between two racquets?

Maybe it's the strawberries and cream, the centre court buzz, or the hit and miss Russian-weather-roulette - June can only mean one thing; two weeks of tennis fever. In the lead up to the event, we take a look at Wimbledon's history - right through to the possible stars of 2007. In an attempt assist your Wimbledon plans, we've got all the advice you'll need about getting there, finding the ticket that suits you, what to wear, when to get there, and for the brave... how to survive the overnight lines. We’ve also got tips from past Wimbledon-goers.

The biggest question is... will 'Henman Hill' become 'Murray Mound'? Until then, "THWACK", "THWACK", "THWACK", "THWACK".

When?
The tournament is the third Grand Slam event played each year. The 2007 Championships will be held between 25th June - 8th July, 2007. The question isn't when to go - just how to get in.

The stress levels involved in getting to the grounds was never going to be easy, the official Wimbledon 2007 site recommends taking public transport and we're not about to argue. Driving is a potential nightmare... expect heavy traffic limited parking. The good old bus and tube are looking better by the second. Our Wimbledon 'Insider' tells us that walking from the Southfields Train Station is the best way to go. Whatever you decide, careful planning will go a long way - here's a head-start:

You can get a London General shuttle bus straight to The Championships from Wimbledon station and Southfields station. These run every five minutes until late so you're safe if both finalists just never say die.

You can also get a bus service every 30 minutes from Marble Arch or Victoria.

TRAINS
The regular service from London Waterloo to Wimbledon Station is your best bet here. ‘Out of towners’ may also find that trains from their town pass through Wimbledon station. The Transport For London site is the best place for a comprehensive list of options and times. Book ahead to avoid long lines and hoards of screaming kids.

      Must See

- The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum: History might be the last thing on your mind when you're in tennis mode but this is one high-tech interactive experience. Take a break from the court action to see McEnroe's Ghost and enough special effects to make the impress the Matrix cast.

- The Graveyard of Champions: Make sure you catch an early round at the No. 2 Court. A number of high ranked player suffered early eliminations here. John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras and Venus Williams all fell under the No. 2 knife... will Murray make it this year?

- Soak up the sun on 'Henman Hill': This is no ordinary patch of grass... it's beneath a giant television screen where people who missed out on tickets can watch the main matches. it's also great for a spot of people watching.

Must Eat
Strawberries and cream of course. Stacks of the little red blighters are gobbled each year - approximately 62,000 pounds of the fruit and 1,540 gallons of cream!

Must drink
Fancy a pint? There's no shortage of pubs and clubs in Wimbledon and although the area is often tagged as 'expensive', the various locals will provide cheaper beer and grub than the club's own nosh. Plus, tennis fever and the flow of booze that comes with it ensures a great vibe, whatever watering hole you choose. We're told the Fire Stables is a cosy venue within staggering distance of Wimbledon Station. If you're after some history, The Rose and Crown is one of the oldest pubs in Wimbledon.

Don't Forget:
Your camera! Video is also allowed but forget using images and footage for anything but personal use.

Leave behind:
Infants. The screaming variety won't be permitted in the show courts and if your vocal nippers are under five you may find it difficult to get in. We hear that screaming affects a player's serve (and their sanity).

Dress code:
There is no dress code and you can wear your face paint and national colours - unless you’re in the Members' Enclosure or the Debenture Lounges. For Members, men need a jacket and tie while ladies need smart trouser suits - no jeans or shorts are acceptable. In the Debenture Lounges, things are a bit more lax... smart casual all the way.

Don't:
Overdo the beer and make too much noise during a match. Not only will you face the wrath of the officials, you might just cop a serve - right between the eyes.

Must take home:
An autograph; you'll need to do this in the first week of the Championship at the booth near the Aorangi Pavilion.

      The Championship's Grass Roots

Wimbledon wasn't always the big, flashy tennis event it is today... The Championships originally included Men's Singles only and were governed by the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Did they envisage the high-profiles, massive sponsorship deals and electronic referees we have today? Probably not.

It all kicked off in 1877 as a Men's only single event. Seven years later, ladies joined the party but although the men were allowed to play doubles, the women had to stick to singles. In 1913 both Ladies’ and Mixed Doubles were added. As for the history of actual British winners? Well, let's steer clear of that topic - maybe this year will mark the end the UK winners’ drought.

We all know the big name players in each year's finals - the beauties, the grunters, the power-house ball smashers and the young-gun superstars who blow the oldies out of the water... but few people realise just how many actually compete from day one.

A total of 128 players feature in each singles event, 64 pairs in each single-sex doubles event, and 48 pairs in Mixed Doubles. Past winners include Rod Laver, John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg and Pete Sampras. Martina Navrátilová, Tanya Ogle, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, and Steffi Graf have also come up trumps.

2006's high-flyers were Roger Federer in Men's Singles, Amelie Mauresmo and her nerves of steel in the Ladie's, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan for Men's Doubles and Zi Yan and Jie Zheng bought one home for China in the Women's Doubles. Andy Ram and Vera Zvonarera defeated American pair Bob Bryan and Venus Williams in straight sets to take the Mised Doubles title. It was fast-paced, gripping and emotion-packed. This year is set to stun.

With Henmania approaching its twilight years, the focus has switched to an icy European world number one with God-given skills. Then, there's the curly haired rising star we've all pinned our hopes on. There's no doubt about it, all eyes will be on Roger Federer and Andy Murray.

Can Federer make it four titles out of four? Can Murray become the first British men’s winner since Fred Perry? Time will tell...

We'll have a full list of the players and their stats as soon as they are announced. In the meantime, leave your favourite player a message.
